7th pay commission: Now these government employees set to get pay hike

In some big news for these state government employees, it has been announced that they will be getting salary hikes as per their wishes and that too soon. In fact, they will even be paid their salaries with retrospective effect from 3 years ago. This announcement came just days after the state government employees unions, Maharashtra State Gazetted Officers Federation, Maharashtra State Employees Organisation and the Maharashtra State Class Four Employees Association, had said they would go on strike from August 7.

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has gone ahead and announced that the pay of state government employees, as per the 7th CPC report recommendations, will be hiked soon. CM Fadnavis has said that his government will implement the pay hike now. Also, employees will get the arrears starting January 2019 and that this will have retrospective effect from January, 2016. The move will cost Maharashtra state exchequer a whopping Rs 21,500 crore.

With the general elections 2019 looming, the Maharashtra government has taken this step even though the outgo on 7th pay commission salaries and perks is huge indeed. To ensure it has the money to pay state government employees, the BJP government will place a supplementary demand in assembly for Rs 4,800 crore during the winter session.

The good news was not limited to that. It was also announced that government employees would be getting 14 months' dearness allowance (DA) too for January, 2016.
