Probe violations at engineering colleges: Teachers’ union

MUMBAI: The Bombay University and College Teachers' Union has written to the vice-chancellor, highlighting gross violation of rules by self-financing engineering colleges. In its letter, the union has claimed that there are large-scale faculty vacancies, salaries are not being paid in time and exam planning is leading to malpractices.

The union added that several colleges were not following the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations and were irregular in paying provident fund, gratuity, medical benefits and salary with all its components as prescribed by the commission "This time, engineering examination schedules were stretched from November 21to January 2. Such along exam schedule is the root cause of all malpractices," said BUCTU president Rohini Sivabalan. This is not the first time that the union has brought this to the notice of the university authorities.
